State of the Art Precision, Old Fashioned Service
Sometimes it seems like "rocket-scientists" get all the glory. They are the high-profile people who publish and lecture, and capture attention. But a core part of a mission's success must be laid squarely on the shoulders of the machinist. Without precise, reliable and perfect parts - well, that rocket just won't fly.
Sigma Engineering's shop and staff provide a titanium-strong foundation to our company's capability. "We are a small, but nimble shop," says Quan Tu, President & CEO. The shop's staff is small, but highly skilled. Besides Quan Tu, four full-time employees - Tam Nguyen, Hernan Ronquillo, Tony Nguyen and Luis Ronquillo - provide creativity and excellent customer service. All are certified machinists, and each has 4 to 38 years of hands-on experience at their positions.
The shop's professional can-do attitude begins with the "no problem!" answer to a customer query. Staff offers suggestions in design to improve the result and cost efficiency The final design is input into a high-tech software program where, stroke by stroke, a virtual part is created under the watchful eye of a technician. Any design flaw or manufacturing difficulty will be visible, and corrections made. Finally the part is created - usually with our new, super high-tech, CNC machining centers, which are computer programmed and ultimately precise. The shop manufactures part for flight, satellites and ground support, or as Quan asserts, "We do whatever is required. No problem."
Sigma Engineering's shop works with a wide range of materials. The most common metal is aluminum, but parts can be made from just about anything, including plastics, titanium, stainless steel, beryllium copper..... The shop can also handle invar, an extremely hard, nickel-iron alloy which is ideal for certain critical uses, such as space flight.
Sigma's commitment to whole-life-cycle customer service is central to the machine shop. It's not just materials - it's people. Relationships with vendors are excellent, so the shop can get items needed very quickly. Customers know that when they call, the no-problem approach will get them whatever they need as efficiently and precisely as possible.
The philosophy of Sigma Engineering's shop is summed up at delivery. When the customer - the one who designed and dreamed the part - reaches for the finished product, turns it over in his hand, and smiles, that's when the work is truly complete. "That's the most exciting part for me - seeing the customer satisfied," says Quan. "When I put the finished product in your hand and see you smile, then I am happy."
